Trashy and dismissive guide.,
This review is from: The Rough Guide to England (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Paperback)Trendy guide trying to be clever and get some blatant free publicity by unjustifiably damning some beautiful parts of Britain. I suspect the dismissive authors haven't even been to some of these places - the guide reads almost as if the authors have just gone onto Wikipedia! Avoid at all costs.

I doubt the reviewer has actually read this book - the review seems based entirely on what the BBC and newspapers made out of the few places where the Rough Guide is (justifiably) critical.

I wonder if the reviewer works for the English Tourist Board. The latter vocally denounced the author for telling it like it is.

I have read parts of the book and it seemed quite accurate to me, for example describing Winchester as beautiful but not much to see in neighbouring Southampton.
