The definitive Sibelius,
This review is from: Sibelius: Complete Symphonies; Violin Concerto; Finlandia (Audio CD)
This is the definitive recording for me of this music. Segerstam is making this music sound completely fresh. He has the courage to let the music sound almost as chamber music. (Just listen to the 2nd symphony.) And when needed there is an almost cocky attitude.
I have never heard this music played like this - and I LOVE it!

I definitely agree. Listening to many Sibelius collections, Segerstam for my personal taste is outstanding. I like the older versions with the danish national symphony orchestra too VERY much. They are not as "chamber-musical" as you put it, and a tad slower. Both versions are wonderful!

The recording with the Danes are really good. What I like in them are the long lines and the flow. Not as detailed as this recording, but still very much "Segerstamian".
