Surprisingly good film with breath-holding moments,
This review is from: Sanctum [DVD] (DVD)
I would have loved to have seen this at the movies but had to make do with watching it as a DVD.
Sanctum is a story about a team of underwater cave divers on a dangerous expedition to the most inaccessible cave system on Earth.
The group is made up of several different personalities, the most powerful being that of Frank McGuire, a man who understands caves more than his his teenage son Josh. In the group is an arrogant financier Carl and his mountaineer girlfriend Victoria.
When a freak tropical storm forces some of the divers deep into the underwater caverns and a hitherto unchartered section of the caves, the disparate group must fight raging water, an unknown terrain as they struggle to fin an unknown escape route to the sea.
Frank has explored the South Pacific's Esa-ala Caves for months but even he is out of his depth their exit is cut off in a flash flood. One by one the survivors fall, one to the bends, another to her death in sink hole and soon there is only Frank, Josh and Carl left and Carl is beginning to feel the pressure of being underground with diminishing light, air and food.
This movie has spectacular special effects, the scenically is breathtaking, the CGI next to none. I can see why it is not everyone's cup of tea, however the acting was excellent, especially the fragile relationship between Josh and his father who is only too well aware of his own shortcomings as a good parent.
Well worth watching, however you will find yourself waiting to exhale in some of the scenes as they are quite nerve racking.
Great film. I loved it.
