Rise Against: Endgame,
This review is from: Endgame (Audio CD)
'Endgame' is an apt title given that the album sounds like band who seem to have lost their creative peak. After three consistently good albums, 'Endgame `feels somewhat a letdown. If you going to write songs under the three and half minute mark which encompass a strong message whilst playing them fast then it needs to be memorable for the listener. Too often the songs on 'Endgame' lack focus and are easily forgettable leaving the listener after 46 minutes very short changed.
In the opening song (one of the album's few highlights) 'Architects' Tim Mcllrath sings:
'Yeah, we still believe in all the things that we stood by before
And after everything we've seen here maybe even more'
This song describes the band's once idolised heroes and icons shying away from the things that they once believed in, conforming to the norm. Ironically, 'Endgame' sounds like a band who are on the verge of doing the same thing by playing it safe. In essence, 'Endgame' is not a dreadful album and by no means does it signify game over but may need to consider raising their game if they want to avoid becoming those icons that have already mellowed with age.
