Where are 5.1 Flac recordings?,

This review is from: Asus Xonar HDAV 1.3 H6 Extension Card (Compatible with Xonar Essence ST) (Accessory)
The ASUS Extension card was originally designed to extend the ASUS stereo gaming sound cards for 5.1 and 7.1 audio. My H6 card is connected to a ASUS Essence ST sound card. The Card was tested under windows using the software supplied with the ST essence card.
The Card was also tested under OpenSuse 12.3 KDE linux.
The Card was tested using the LINN 5.1 Flac test files.
The 5.1 test channel identification file correctly identifies only three channels.
The 5.1 example file only plays the three central channels, while all five channels are produced when 7.1 output is selected! The Quality sounds OK given the very short example files.
As with the ST Essence card, the H6 card is very prone to mains hum between the card and the amplifiers.. The H6 card needs Six , high quality , shielded , short Phono cables. My audio setup did not include a bass unit.
The Build quality is basic "Games" standard, and is nowhere as good as the ST card let alone the ASUS essence one external DAC.Then again the H6 card is cheap and cheerful, and designed for PC games and home cinema.
When somebody decides to adopt a 5.1 standard file format I suspect that this card will produce an output a wee bit lower than SACD, but better than the home cinema standard.
I have no interest in gaming ,nor home cinema, and cannot therefore comment on the game playing or home cinema audio produced by this card.
