3.0 out of 5 stars good first impression, 21 Feb. 2007
This review is from: From Mars To Sirius (Audio CD)
well, at first i loved this cd, songs like backbone and to sirius really got me going, but then after a few listens everything seemed to blend in. The lyrics, i must say are pretty awful and predictable. The tone and production on the guitars sounds too messy and the whales? cough mastadon anyone?? This is still a good album but doesnt have any features to make it stand out from a lot of todays metal. The drumming is really good mind, most of the guitar parts seem pretty similar throughout. The Global Warming song is good at first but gets really repetetive. Overall its an average metal album that you may enjoy a bit longer than me.

Lyrics about the destruction of our planet and being environmentally concerned are predictable for an extremely heavy and original death metal band?! I dunno what you've been listening to, but do let me know! This album is fantastic.

I'm a big fan of Mastodon's 'Leviathan' album and never really thought about any comparison. Mastodon has their style, Gojira has theirs, and on this album it shines. Now, true, BOTH bands might have more recently at time of writing headed in a prog and melodic direction, but where else did they have to go? They still don't sound alike. So, are you going to take it further and compare with Moby, too? He's whale-orientated in his presentation, and even has distorted guitars in many of his tracks... ridiculous enough for ya?
