Unique and intriguing footage of a music legend.,
This review is from: Michael Jackson's This Is It [2 Disc Collector's Edition] [DVD] (DVD)
Went to see this at the cinema, and I have been eagerly waiting its release on DVD. I can only agree with previous comments that is a must-see, and gives the public an idea of how utterly breath-taking Michael Jackon's live shows would have been.
All the talk about whether or not he could do a concert of the standards his audience would expect is answered here. His voice, concentration, moves and presence are all there to see. No, he's not as agile as he was at 25, but, er, who would be? This footage shows he was actually, at least on the outside, in pretty good shape and much more 'with it' than your average 50-year old would be. The production was set to be amazing (look for the 'Thriller' and 'Smooth Criminal' sections to show this), and his vocals were still as clear as they ever were ('I Just Can't Stop Long You' and 'The Way You Make Me Feel')
I was always a fan of MJ's music, but not one of the absolute committed fans, but I was lucky enough to see him close-up in the flesh in London not long before he died and I can testify that, to me, from about four feet away he looked relaxed, in good health, and had an aura about him I've never experienced and probably never will again.
It is a complete and utter waste that this show was never seen for real, and that Michael Jackson is no longer with us. I hope, being on mass release, this silences the doubters. Like some others, I did have reservations about the motives for this being released at all, but when you see it, you understand why, and I for one applaud the decision to show it to the world.
