This review is from: The Avengers - Series 6 [DVD] (DVD)
The Tara King era of The Avengers (1967-68) to all Avenger fans is a clear departure from both the Gale and Peel eras.
On closer inspection Mrs Cathy Gale and Mrs Emma Peel are almost identical: hair, clothes, diction and the oft caustic wit a la London's Chelsea Set. It's just that Diana Rigg is actually better known than Honor Blackman.
Linda Thorson achieved remarkable success with Agent 69, Tara King, as a then 19-year-old unknown Torontonian actress fresh out of RADA. I think the proof of the pudding is the fact that the Tara King era, at least in Europe, was a massive ratings hit and still has massive appeal among younger fans today as it circulates widely on various pan-European channels with elevated cult status and is regarded as the epitome of British 1960's High Style and cool.
No spoilers here - but this series really is a must for all true Avengers fans with scripts that are among the finest in the series' history.
Ms Thorson is more than worthy of her place in the history of cult TV at its best and her beauty is very distracting.
