Very good sound system but with occasional seizing up and audio loss,
This review is from: SONY BDVE3100 5.1 3D Blu-ray Home Cinema System (Electronics)
I've had this for a few months.
The 5.1 surround sound is exceptionally good when playing Blu-ray movies.
The amount of bass is just right.
I tried playing a surround sound (or DTS-HD) MTS file (via optical connection) and confirmed 5.1 surround sound via this input. However I don't know of any Freeview or Satellite channels that broadcast in 5.1. It is annoying that I cannot tell the cinema system to use all speakers (for 2.1 sound) because the majority of the time I am listening to TV via this system. This is a very poor design limitation and glad I didn't pay more than £200 for this system.
I see regular audio loss (and unit seizing up) issues when using the optical connection and it only occurs after forwarding through MTS video. I talked to Sony who suggested a software update. However the latest software update (210 - dated December 2014) doesn't prevent the problems. In one evening I had 3 audio losses where only a reboot would get the audio back. I would avoid buying this cinema system if your main source of audio is from the digital output of another device.
Another negative is the silly amount of time it takes to reboot the system. Like 60 seconds. Really annoying if you're getting regular seizing up.

exactly same problem I had with my first one... had it repaired twice before store would replace. Very annoyed.
