Excellent 1983 mini album expanded,
This review is from: Chimera (Audio CD)
The 1983 mini album expanded with a further four tracks. The starting point for these compositions was drum loops supplied by Yukihuro Takashi of the Yellow Magic Orchestra. Bill Nelson then composed and built up the songs over the loops. This is one of the funkiest ( a word I don't usually associate with Bill ) Nelson recordings. It still sounds like solo Bill Nelson though – you always get sound piled on sound on his recordings (in a good way though), innovative use of synths, e-bow guitar, and tape cut-ups. This is good stuff with contributions also from Mick Karn of Japan and Bill's brother Ian. Something that's often overlooked is how good a lyric writer Bill is. His words lend his work a peculiar romanticism as evidenced here by the beautiful “Another Day, Another Day Of Hope”. If you absolutely must compartmentalise this then I suppose it's vaguely post punk.
