The real thing,
This review is from: Power Plant (Audio CD)
There's a lot of music touted as being psychedelic; any old 60s garage fuzz is repackaged with a suitably swirly graphic and wibbly text and sold as a mind-bending dip into consciousness expanding music. Much of these have merit, but this is the real deal, and if your taste stretches to the 13th Floor Elevators and beyond, then you'll know what the real thing sounds like. And this is it. The band hail from Texas and the Elevators influence is clear (Rocky was a friend and encouraged the band). Musically it's tight and competent and the ridiculous extremes of fuzz, feedback and random sound effects avoided in favour of a more musical approach, albeit tinged with the strange. If you are looking for an obscure psychedelic gem here it is. That claim may have been made for many albums before and since, but in this case it is justified. My copy claimed to be one of a limited edition of 1,500, so order this now.
