5.0 out of 5 stars Undiscovered Gem, 30 Dec. 2012
This review is from: Highs, Lows and Heavenly Blows (Audio CD)
This is the best Spectrum album I've heard and one of my all-time favourite l.p's which seems to be tough to get a hold of these days apart from by mp3 download. Surely a re-issue is due considering the high regard in which Sonic Boom is now held both as musician and producer. The ex- Spacemen3 star here hits new heights of tripped-out mellowness with an overall shimmer to the production reminiscent of...no one really! Sonic is pretty unique and his music often has a narcotic effect on the listener hence l.p. titles like 'Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To'! Love and loss are (broadly) the themes with cool electronic waves sprinkled with beautiful, melodic guitar lines and Sonic's ethereal, gentle voice nestled inbetween. Some tracks have actually moved me to tears with their heartfelt lyrics, majestic understated power and sure grasp of spine-tingling melody. Quite an achievement and testament to the unquestionable genius of Pete Kember.Highs, Lows And Heavenly Blows
