MAGNIFICENT MATHIS CONTINUES HIS MAGICAL ALBUM CAREER!,
This review is from: Let It Be Me - Mathis In Nashville (Audio CD)
It's an amazing fact the Mathis recording career has now spanned well over fifty years with this latest collection dedicated to country and western songs authentically recorded in Nashville. Nominated for a 2011 Grammy in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category, Mathis lost out to Michael Buble's CRAZY LOVE but although that's a cracking album I really hoped Mathis would win for his longevity alone as well as it being his fourth nomination and the fact the album is so enjoyable.
Johnny's in excellent voice as well, with his song choices safely enfolding WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD (a bonus track is a Christmas version), MAKE THE WORLD GO AWAY, CRAZY and I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU and arrangements ideally fit voice, mood and style. I also enjoyed the traditional SHENANDOAH and Elvis ballad LOVE ME TENDER. Helping out are Alison Krauss for LET IT BE ME and Vince Gill on LOVIN' ARMS.
Great to have a new recording from Mr Mathis and I really hope it does well.
