2.0 out of 5 stars A Nightmare, 7 Nov. 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Epson Stylus SX405 WiFi Edition All In One Printer (Electronics)
This printer has been a nightmare to set up.After many talks with Epson on line chat i finally got it working. The manual seems fine but they have left so much out that you need to know. To let you all know, you have to set it up on each individual printer(taking the printer to that pc) to get it working across a network.this means taking it to every pc you have, connecting it up running the software(30 mins minimum)then adding the print server.I was really fed up by the end of all this.
The printer itself is great and also the scanner.Oh why oh why make it so complicated.Think i should have gone with another make.So i would do some research before buying a wifi unit.Look at the manual online.Oh bye the way Epson at present do not have any information on there site about the WIFI model.

oh for goodness sake - if you read the blurb about wi-fi on the box it states that its a print server - perhaps users should do the research before buying products they don't understand! setup is easy if you follow the steps (again quite clear if you can read and follow instructions and pictures)
overall great product being slagged off by people that cant figure out how it works!

That is all very well if you know what a print server is! I got a friend to pick this model up for me as I was desperate and had no time to get to the shops and was desperate for a printer. I followed all the instructions but couldn't get past number 4 and the software doesn't do anything when I pop it into my laptop. Well it whirrs around for a bit but no online instructions come up or installation wizards. I tried to download the online brochure at the Epson website but once downloaded I couldn't open it. It is clearly going to cost me a call out to my computer guy. Not everyone is a computer wizz G. Allen and there is no blurb about wi-fi on my box at all! I was looking for a usb cable until I read these two reviews. Ok ok, I shouldn't have sent someone to do my shopping but I do think the instructions could be better.

Not slagging printer just the wireless set up, having worked in networking and pc problems as a trouble shooter. This is the worst set up i have ever come across.I have had it working but but for someone new to this it will be a nightmare.Anyway have got rid of printer and the one i now have is easy to set up and has given me no problems from day one which is how it should be.More than can be said for Epson one

I like sentiment of your comment. My only wish looking for a wifi printer, is that you could have indicated which printer you now use and potentially saved me (other folks too!) a lot of extra time.

yes, what printer do you recommend? and, are you using a pc or mac, because mac's tend to sort out everything for you, no installation needed.
