A wonderful read from vicki jarrett,
This review is from: Nothing Is Heavy (Paperback)
Nothing is Heavy is the helter-skelter story of one Saturday night when the lives of a pole dancer, a chip shop worker and a man in a monkey suit collide sending the participants ricocheting off in crazy and unpredictable directions. Set in Edinburgh amid the seedy and secretive world of prostitution and drug deals and the not-so-secretive but still-a-bit-seedy world of late night chip shops and stag nights, Nothing is Heavy takes you on a madcap journey of coincidences and random quirks of fate and explores ideas about the nature of chance and how we strike glancing blows off each other's lives or occasionally knock each other into a different orbit. The story uses three viewpoints that overlap and weave together with wit and grace. The cast of secondary characters also deserves a special mention. Personal favourites include Gianni with his Elvis hair and chip van, Davey the philosophising drunk and Shark Boy (you'll just have to read it). There really is never a dull moment.
If you love Kate Atkinson's novels of crime, coincidence and quirky characters set in the byways of Edinburgh you'll love Nothing is Heavy.
