2.0 out of 5 stars Lovely images - CBBC voice over, 9 Jun 2012
By
This review is from: Great Rift [DVD] (DVD)
Can't grumble about the cinematography which is simply stunning at times but who wrote this script? Anthromorphic dross, and scientifically incorrect drivel - beginning within the first sentences of the series with a claim that some baboons in ethiopia live higher than any other primate in the world ....well how about good old Homo sapiens in the Himalayas ????? and continuing with the same poorly researched/dumbed down drivel placing human emotions onto just about anything that has legs. If only there was an option to turn off the voiceover.

A great shame that the particular standard of scientific rigour set by David Attenborough is not followed by others in a BBC wildlife documentary.

This is meant to be helpful not snide! If you hate the commentary so much, does your TV/Amplifer not have a mute button?

Thank you - seems a great idea to watch documentaries in silence. Why hadn't I thought of that?

its a rather outdated view that animals don't have some emotions, even if they can't afford them much living day to day free in the wild.

I would add I meet many people that don't seem to have any emotions animal or otherwise :-)

It is maybe time good old Homo sapiens started realising they really aren't quite as special as they like to believe!

I do often watch natural history documentaries in silence ( I can highly recommend it) because it appears to have become fashionable now to make these docs in Hollywood, action movie, style with loud inappropriate drum scores and only showing acts of extreme behaviour of a few "exciting species"! catering for the Steve Irwin generation of animal molesters/adrenalin junkies!

I fear for the natural world !

but hey its just my view not a criticism of any individual.
