Not as good as the Oxo Peeler and more expensive,
This review is from: Master Class Heavy Duty 'Y' Shaped Peeler (Kitchen & Home)
Each Sunday it is my onerous task to peel potatoes for family dinner. I like cooking and, being an engineer, I marvel at the development of some of the simplest of kitchen implements. Peeling potatoes is not very challenging intellectually but it can be satisfying when doing so with a peeler that works well. I have become familiar with several makes of peeler over several years and I had come to respect and value a y-peeler that I had bought somewhere for very little money. By strange coincidence it disappeared at the same time as the departure of a guest who had also discovered its efficiency. Having searched 'high and low' but failed to find it, I bought several replacements at local stores, none of which worked properly. Then I decided to search on the web for a good peeler. I ordered two peelers through Amazon UK, one made by Kitchen Craft, which cost more than the other one ordered that was made by Oxo. The Kitchen Craft peeler arrived a few weeks before the Oxo one. Although designed very smartly, with its solid steel handle and surgical appearance, it does not perform at all as well and the Oxo. It does not bite into the potato skin for the first 1-2 mm of stroke and the narrow blade clogs easily. The 'gouger' to remove sunken defects and eyes is poorly located on the right side and difficult to use. The Oxo peeler on the other hand, with its shorter handle and wider blade, works like a dream. I never thought that I'd see the day when I'd feel moved to write emotionally about a potato peeler but it has finally happened. I've found a new and faithful companion and its name is OXO!

Your emotive review brought tears to my eyes... especially as yesterday I bought the Delux instead of the OXO. :'(

I like the OXO best too, but it too suffers a fair bit from the clogged blade syndrome. I have now decided to design and put into production the ULTIMATE Y PEELER which adresses this plus a couple of other minor niggles, so look forward to buying my peeler for around £6 when I get the financial backing for it. Dragons' Den, here I come (only kidding, I wouldn't sell 50% equity to those sharks, as that's surely the amount they'd ask for when I want to give no more than 10%).
