WAY TO HARD & far too random!,
This review is from: Football Manager 2013 (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
For me FM2012 was very hard but just about playable with the right tactic. I spent ages on a modified 4-4-2 attacking formation that would see me survive season after season as Arsenal without ever finishing higher then about 6th despite signing top players like Beckham and Neymar. FM2013 has been made even harder to the point where for me the fun has gone and its almost unplayable. I started the game with a similar modified 4-4-2 attacking formation that I had used in fm2012. I put alot of effort and thought into this tactic and it seemed to work. Four freindlys four easy wins. Many goals scored none conceded :) Then the season started and I lost 2-1 to Tottenham. Fair enough it was a close game against a tough team and we had our chances. Next up were QPR where I suffered a heavy 3-1 thrashing with my team looking absolutely dreadful. 6 games later and I had lost all 8 games of the opening campaign :( To say I found these games frustrating would be an understatement. In fact my laptop almost went out the window on a couple of occasions ;)What struck me as slightly bizzare at this point was my board. As a 26 year old manager in charge of Arsenal with no previous manager experience and no wins in 8 games you might think my board would be on the verge of sacking me. You'd be wrong.... They were "satisfied" with my performance and particuarly pleased that I signed some impressive young players. Go figure...
At this point having already tried to tweak my formation a fair bit I decided to go in another direction tactically and went for a 4-5-1 with all instructions on defualt. Instant success as Chelsea were smashed 3-0 and then Villa seen of 4-1.Another couple of wins and I started to feel like the game was worth playing until a streak of four defeats in a row had me scratching my head again and my board finally on my back. Matches do become frustraiting as your players make crazy mistakes while your assistant comes up with helpful suggestions such as "your midfield is being overun", yeah I guessed that after we conceded the fourth goal...
All in all the game is too hard and too damn random. You might beat Man utd 4-0 then lose to Brighton Hove Albion 6-0 with the same formation and players a week later. The results often seem preditermined and unavoidable. Team talk reactions seem to be completely random and have little effect on the result or how your players approach the game. Gone are the days when your average footie fan could pick up the game sign some new players, pick a decent formation and have success. Everyone I speak to about this game either cheat by replaying matches or dismiss it as unplayably difficult. Maybe there are two manay variables in the game maybe its just too complicated as many are saying but FM2013 just isnt fun with its current difficulty. Perhaps they should think about introducing difficulty levels next year rather then just constantly making the game harder?

These games have been ultra hard and complex for a few years dude, if you enjoyed the last one fair play, but so much of it felt like work and not fun. I have been on here to see if the new version is any better, and now it appears a whole different type of problem has developed- that the game is wierd when matches are being played, that they don't behave properly. I remember the LMA games of 5 or 6 years ago- nice graphics, simple training, good amount of leagues, realistic matches. I wish I could have a game like that again.

You play a 4-4-2 and bought Beckham and Neymar? Try Emile Heskey, hear he's a world beater too.
