2.0 out of 5 stars Be warned, 18 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Subconscious Cruelty (DVD)
If you're thinking of splashing out on this film you should be aware of what you're getting -a below par film school effort with no production values or any visual flair. This film might trade on being transgressive and dangerous but in reality it's one horror cliche after another - zoom into white door - check, portentious narration - check, red and blue filtered lighting - check, creepy dolls faces - you get the picture. The gore is like a cross between Tetsuo and Nekromantik - it's undoubtably revolting, but, really, does anyone care any more? There's only so many ways a human body can be carved up and I think we've pretty much seen them all by now. I haven't given this one star because I respect anyone who puts together a film with very little money, but wouldn't it be great if we got back to the likes of Eraserhead (ie a work of vision/imagination) instead of these tedious splatterfests.

Mark Twain says:
I think you mean "pretentious" instead of "portentious," which ironically is one of the most pretentious adjectives I've ever seen a reviewer (mis)use.
