Thought provoking read,
This review is from: Grace Williams Says It Loud (Kindle Edition)
Im not sure about using the word "enjoyed" about this book as, overall, it is a sad emotive read. I'd heard similar stories about institutions and remember when they began to be closed and their inmates sent out into the community (care in the community I think they called it?). One of my father's older half-sisters was in a "home" for most of her life. She was epileptic. I always, as a child, found her story to be too sad for words.
There are many lovely moments in this book - the tender times, the fun and laughter. But there is so much sadness, so much of the "they don't matter" "they have no feelings" that I found some sections really hard going.
But I am glad I read it and, although it made me cry, it also made me laugh as well. I thought it was a great book.
