made the longlist 2006 oranage prize award - disturbing,
This review is from: Rape: A Love Story (Paperback)
As the title suggests this is a horrific tale of a young girls gang rape and for that reason if you find this disturbing do not read.
I read 3 books from the Orange 2006 longlist (Rape , The Position, House of Orphans) unfortunately none of them made the shortlist.
I wished I had never read it, although the story develops and a police man sets about finding the gang the book is very much about the rape and I found is very difficult to read.
For me it wasnt what I was used to and read more like a statement than a novel and I was left wondering if the author had been raped and this was some kind of therapy book.
Its not a big book and wont take long to read, maybe even one sitting and I think thats the only reason I selected it over the other larger books also on the Oranage list.
Not a topic Im comfortable in reading and would not recommend although I believe the author has written over 50 novels and is very well established author.
For those interested Zadie Smith 's On Beauty was the 2006 winner.
