Excellent insulated butter dish,
This review is from: Alessi Butter Dish with San Lid in Steel Mirror Polished , Grey (Kitchen & Home)
This is a beautifully designed butter dish. Perhaps the most important thing to know is that the base is very heavily insulated (double walled, with a thick interval between the two layers of the base). This means that you can leave the butter out, summer and winter, without it melting down or being rock hard. It's just fine for spreading.
I have been using double walled butter dishes for years but this one is much more elegant than the usual. It is also more compact, although it holds even unconventionally shaped blocks of butter very easily. Both parts will go in the dishwasher. Because of the large interval between the two walls, and also the wider than usual base, it seems to have better insulating properties than my previous two insulated butter dishes (Master Class and Grünwerg).
It's not cheap to say the least but insulated butter dishes tend to be expensive (at least £20-£25) and with this one you get what you pay for. A word of caution: Alessi does another stainless steel butter dish. That is flimsy and not insulated, so really not worth the £58 or so you'd have to pay for it. The design is not that great either. But this one is worth your money.
