Beautifully done but denouements weak,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Endeavour: The Complete First Series [DVD] (DVD)
These episodes are TV at its best, with high production values, great acting and reverence for the Morse series. However, most of the episodes have weak denouements with an insistence on ludicrous twists in the tail, leaving a feeling of anticlimax. The last story is the worst, with a 'Gunfight at the OK corral' scene followed by a complete volte face and a rushed ending. Still miles better than anything else on TV though.

I agree with you. Unlike you, however, I give the series 3 1/2 stars. Each episode starts off well, but ends a little disappointingly. It's not that the denouements are weak; it's just that they are a tad contrived (perhaps that's what you meant?). For me, a good mystery has to be convincing, believable, and not just thrilling, and I think that these episodes are short of believability, except one, the Pilot episode, which remains my favorite.
