I Wanna Rock!,
This review is from: Waylon Forever (Audio CD)
Taking the last recording of his father, his son Shooter (best name of a country singer ever!) & his band recorded the backing music to the tracks.
Now if you've every heard any of Shooter's music, it's country/rock, with the emphasis very much on the rock part which permeates throughout most of this record, especially the tracks "Ain't living long like this" & the incendiary "Lonesome, Onry.." which is probably better than the original.
There are lighter touches to the album, the mournful "Outlaw S*^%" (which is actually "Don't you think this outlaw bit..", perhaps that was the original title), the funky "Waymore's Blues", & the soulful (but odd) "I found the body", which has black female backing vocals, which is interesting considering country music is hardy the most interracial of musical genre.
The cover of "white room" is a little pointless, it's such a well known song & Waylon & Co don't really add anything new with there version (but with the album only consisting of 8 tracks, they may have used it the flesh out the record).
Some fans might call it sacrilege to re-record these classic Waylon songs, but I think there's enough different with the new versions to make it worth purchasing, & if it leads you to checking out the rest of Waylon's back-catalogue, then job done.
