Excellent companion to Geology Books,
This review is from: Shore to Summit: A Photographic Guide to the Geology of Britain and Ireland (Hardcover)
The author (a well know landscape photographer) was not too impressed with some of the pictures in the Geology books she had been using to help her understanding of the way our landscape is formed.
This gorgeous book is the result... a cornucopia of brilliant atmospheric photographs of some of the most beautiful and inspiring places (of geological interest) in the British Isles - plus some useful and helpful essays on the various and many different geological eras that we find in the UK.
Each photograph picks out a specific type of rock, or a particular way that the strata has been formed, and links these to a map of the UK, which includes a diagram of the way that geological time flows from the north-west of Scotland to the south-east of Kent (almost as if the UK has been rotated through 90 degrees).
I have been using the excellent The Geology of Britain in my own exploration of this fascinating topic - and this wonderful picture book is the perfect companion.
