The biggest surprise of the year,
This review is from: My Mad Fat Diary (Paperback)
I hesitated when I saw this at the book shop. To be honest I only picked it up to confirm the stereotype I thought it was going to be. I expected shallow teenage ramblings of the kind we've all heard before without any real point.
After standing in Borders for about twenty minutes because I had to 'read just one more page' I realised that I had to give in to my urge to purchase.
This book is laugh out loud funny one minute and deeply touching the next. What makes it all the more compelling is the knowledge that this isn't some tale made up by an author with nothing better to do. It's based on real diaries.
I don't like admitting a gut instinct was wrong, but this book is the most human and genuine thing I've read this year.
