Faulty products! Stick with your 305,
This review is from: Garmin Forerunner 310XT GPS Multisport Watch with Heart Rate Monitor (Electronics)
I've had my Garmin 310XT a few weeks after many great years using a 305. I decided to `upgrade' as a gift to myself rather than necessity. The unit was good for the first few week, but not really superior to the 305 apart from the battery life, the vibrate alert option and being waterproof.
However, it seems these units have bugs. Firstly, on some cooler mornings the watch face would get condensation under it making it impossible to read. Secondly, occasionally the activities would just disappear immediately after stopping.
But the worst thing is that it suddenly stopped picking up satellites completely. And it turns out that dealing with Garmin isn't a very nice experience. They seem to be fully aware of this fault with their unit but are happy to keep on selling them! Try getting a refund out of Garmin - not going to happen!!

You've obviously got a defective example. Have you tried returning it to Amazon? As the retailer who sold it to you, they should be your first point of call. Amazon's customer services are (in my experience) exceptionally helpful, and I have no doubt they will replace it for you without question. Garmin may be being difficult because you really should go to Amazon for a replacement rather than to Garmin directly.

The earlier releases did have bugs. As of June 2012 most are fixed. The disappearing activities is bizarrely due to an incorrect satellite lock at the start...causing the date not to be properly set from satellites. again new firmware fixes this.
