Honestly, when are people going to take a stand against this type of 'music'?,
This review is from: Plastic Beach (MP3 Download)I'm not going to critique every track here, and i've never been a fan of Gorillaz - this album perfectly illustrates why.
This is a half-baked mish-mash-wish-wash of sterile studio nonsense laced with formulaic hip-hop-flop-pop. Even Albarn sounds so non-plussed with his own vocals - goddamn it! we need bands, with proper instruments, real opinions, why not some passion? It's so devoid of emotion it should be given to insomniacs the world over. Whereas 90s music had the attitude to shout 'lager, lager, lager', this just whispers 'coma, coma, coma'. Everyone on this album needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror, and decide if they want to make music or muse-tat. This is undoubtedly the latter. Enough of this ploddy, flatlining pap, please. Even the people in Gorillaz don't want to show their real faces - says it all.
If you want authentic electronic music (british) then check out 'Audio Bullys - Higher Than The Eiffel'.

You have your own opinion, and I respect that. But please, alot of this is nonsense. If you dislike their previous albums then why are you listening to this? And if you dislike this; then I would recommend listening to them through first! This album is a very good representative of todays pop scene; thus comes with a message. The music here is not meant to fill the dancefloors or necessarily cause the public feeding on the likes of Rihanna and JB to weep in happiness :P It is simply very soulful music but with a pop and PURPOSEFULLY gimicky appearance. Listen to the words of the rap of Superfast Jellyfish. A song imitating many other songs, yet with very well thought-out lyrics and showing some of the evil in society.
This album has purposefully come with a 'plastic' cover. Unlike many other of their works. Just listen to M1A1 for instance, not exactly Lady GaGa like :P
I don't mean to be cutting, I just feel you have taken these very talented people the completely wrong way :/

You make some interesting points, but the proof of the music is in the listening, and this album, IMO, was decidedly underwhelming.

it's a pretty good album, but then i like most of their stuff. even so i admitt there are some terrible songs. still surely worth more than 1 star? you have to have some graduation between perfect and abismal.
