Oh here we go Mr Nonnymouse it really is a transcrition for Jazz Band and there is an ammount of this floating around in the Classical repetoire but it is usually Brass Band - hey but this reminds me of the famous old dinner party chat and sometimes spats about who was the greatest opera singer Callas or Sutherland.
I have been reading the reviews for this disc with fascination and although the Band is a Jazz Band I really do not think that this invalidates the comments , up to date etc. Where does this rational put the Red Priests. Remember the Mozart Opera transcriptions that used to be played on the streets of Vienna, well I remember the recordings of them! Do they come under the heading popular? I look forward to receiving my copy of this disc very shortly and hear M Loussier's re-scoring for Jazz Band - is it Classical well yes it is - is it Jazz well yes it is. I think it's great that these works are gaining further currency in this form.
Well I received my copy of this disc and listened with fascination. Some of the passage work and rythms reminded me of Brazillian Jazz and the works took on an unexpected shape - in no circumstance do they replace but do certainly add to the performance rpetoire
