Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Garmin nuvi 50 5" Sat Nav with UK and Ireland Maps (Electronics)
We purchased this for a recent family road trip as we planned to be all over much of England, Scotland and Wales. It seemed to be up to date with the local roads. However, that is where the positives end. This device seems to be programmed to keep you off the major thoroughfares as much as possible. I mean, it had us on every little back road imaginable. Even when we used the GPS on our phones or the paper map as a back up and stayed on major roads, it still tried to divert us. Changing the settings did nothing. On one occasions, it just froze and wouldn't shut off. We had to wait until the battery ran flat (2 hours) before we were able to use the device again. In the end, we just stuck to our phones and the paper map which offered more direct routes and were more reliable. I might consider using this in a town area, because it seemed to be pretty accurate in small areas, but for long distance trips, I'd find a better option.
