waste of money,
This review is from: Samurai Zen (Paperback)
I was one of the unfortunate people who spent money on it. The author is called a 'preeminent Martial Art Master', however he does not appear to have any grades in the arts that he talks about. The Publisher's review also states that he is 'at the forefront of the integration of spiritual understanding into Martial Arts' - eh? Anyone practicing more or less seriousely knows that spiritual understanding is the foundation of MA, it was there for thousands of years before Mr.Shaw was born.
I have been practicing Aikido since 1991. From my point of view this is a very strange and bizzare book. I don't know where the stances came from, but they are not correct Iaido stances. His face looks like he just swallowed a wasp. I have neevr seen anyone talk about Zen with a facial expression like that.
If you want to study Zen, buy 'Zen Mind, Beginners Mind' by Shunryu Suzuki, or find a dojo if you want to do Martial Arts. But unless you like jumping around your bedroom with a sword you bought for £30 pretending you are a samurai warrior, the book will be a waste of your time and money.
