a local album,
This review is from: Local Information (Audio CD)
Darren, John and a dog, are the band known as 'The French'. This band fromed from Hefner have produced a most welcome debut album. I think 'Local Infomation' should not be compared to anything by hefner as indeed Darren and John's 'French' should not be compared to Hefner as a band. Too many people dwell on the fact that Darren has written so many great albums in the past. Instead they should concentrate on what a beaufitul record his new one is. It is indeed a collection of songs which are local to many of us in one way or another.
A new sound of electric pop poetry, full of the under appreiciated synth and brilliant writting. I found it quite easy to drift into the stories the songs create and at least relate to a few. I love this album because of it's wonderfuly humbling british-ness and it's empathy with suburbia.
Greatly reccomend it, thank god there's still good music.
