A wonderful aged and classic recording,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Symphony No. 4 (Raskin / Szell) (Audio CD)
The much-vaunted Horenstein version is good, the Bernstein is better but the Szell version exceeds both. I must confess that I'd not heard this on CD until I recently bought a copy but, as with most Columbia re-issued and enhanced recordings, it's quite wonderful. Difficult to chose between this and the Rattle version. In fact, I love and own them both. I find it impossible to state a preference but, what I would recommend is that the Cleveland and Szell (together with Raskin) give a marvellous and polished American perspective; if that is your preference. The verve and style of this ensemble put this CD ahead of all other American offerings.
It's possible to get a well-priced copy of this CD on Amazon, which ought to enable you to endorse my view.
To repeat, if the highly polished American style is your preference, then this version is a must for you.
