An interesting overview of the world's best that is bound to inspire,
This review is from: 1000 Ultimate Sights (Lonely Planet 1000 Ultimate Sights) (Paperback)
Lonely planet are well renowned for producing the most insightful and informative travel guides around and this compact book containing 1,000 of the world's ultimate sights does not disappoint. Essentially this guide is useful for providing an overview of the world's greatest, one from which inspiration can be drawn.
Each of the sights contains a brief description of what the attractions have to offer, with roughly a quarter of them being accompanied by a picture, with an even briefer description of the best mode of transport to take to each of the attractions. Where I feel this book is slightly flawed is in the groupings of some of the sights. A lot of the chapters seem to cover incredibly niche topics such as the 'Best Public Murals' and the 'Most Iconic Trees'. So unless you know you have a particular passion for one of these niche categories, the breakdown of the chapters can be fairly irrelevant and so as a reader you are required to scour all 350 pages in search for inspiration.
Overall, this book is useful for providing inspiration for possible holiday destinations so long as you are willing to invest the time to flick through the book from cover to cover. Additional information is definitely required however if you plan to visit any of the locations as the description is only detailed enough to give you a taster.
