For a more measured review, please refer to Simon Heffer in the Daily Telegraph. Two stars is ridiculous.

T. Bently says:
What I objected to in this book is Davison's pedantic approach (counting the number of semi-colons in one of Orwell's books) contrasted with his major omissions, such as including only one letter from his school/teenage years. It is marketed as a LIFE in letters after all. I agree that I'm in a minority though. As you say, it's received very favourable reviews in the press.

What's the use of referring people to a review in the papers? T. Bently's comments make sense to me, and at least he has actually reviewed the book.
