5.1 on Xbox,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Duronic 1M TOSLINK F008/1 NickelSpec High Resolution Digital Optical TOSlink Cable 24K Gold Connector. This cable can be used for the likes of DVD, PC, and games consoles such as the Sony PS3 (Electronics)
I hooked up my Sharkoon X-Tatic 5.1 headphones (v3) to my Xbox via the RCA adapter (XBOX 360 HDMI AV CABLE+OPTICAL RCA ADAPTER). The sound is crystal clear. Duronic do a gold version too, which I also have (I brought out of curiosity), but they sound much the same to me. I prefer the grey colour with my Xbox.
I brought this cable because the one that came with my headphones didn't fit the Xbox RCA adapter (didn't click into place). It did work though, and the sound was excellent, but it bothered me. I brought another cable; but that didn't fit properly either! In the end I tried this on an off chance and it fits with a comforting click. I suppose that's why I also brought the gold version later.
All the cables sound much the same to be honest, it's optical: the light either gets through or it doesn't. At this short length (1m) there really isn't anything in it, and you'd probably need a machine to tell them apart.
However if you want to hook up an Xbox via the RCA adapter then some cables 'click', and some do not. This ones does 'click'. I do not know if it's a fluke that it fits the Xbox RCA adapter, or if this cable is more 'standard' than others. I can't comment on other equipment as I have not tried it.
The thicker Duronic cables seem to be more robust and flexible than the thinner cables I've tried (TOSlink cables are susceptible to being damaged by over bending or crushed under foot).
All in all I am very happy with my purchase and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360) has never sounded so good! (now Call of Duty: Black Ops (Xbox 360) :D)
