From Chapter 2

'The tale of the kitchen knight

One day, a young stranger arrived at king Arthur's castle.
He had beautiful white hands but his clothes were old and torn.
"I have nowhere to go," he told the king. "Please Sire, may I stay for a year?"
King Arthur liked the look of him, so he agreed.
"Sir Kay can take care of you," he said.
Grumpy Sir Kay was in charge of the kitchens. He sneered at the young boy.
"Hmph! I shall call you Pretty Hands," he said.
"Now let's see how hard you can work."...........'

....and so Pretty Hands set about various kitchen tasks....for nearly a year........without a word of complaint.
Then a lady arrived...who was rather rude but needed some knightly help..............because her sister, Lady Lyonesse had been captured by the Red Knight, a knight as strong as seven men!
She is not terribly impressed when the only volunteer is the kitchen boy, Pretty Hands.........
.....but things change quite quickly and dramatically for the young stranger, by the end of the story!

The book ends with a page about 'The Legend of King Arthur'.
