Best electronic dictionary I ever owned,
This review is from: Sharp PWE500A Electronic Dictionary and Thesaurus with Quotations, Crossword and Puzzle Solver (Office Product)The dictionary is probably the best you can get in electronic form. I spend a lot of time every day reading/studying and this has been incredible help. My only complain is that the batteries do not last very long even when I don't use backlight. Also I wonder whether it makes full use of the technology available nowadays in terms of screen visibility. I personally find the crossword and puzzle solver function useless and I would rather if I had the chance to add an extra-language dictionary according to my preferences (e.g english-french or english-italian) surely there is the technology for creating a personalized gadget like that but none seems to bother.
I haven't used the puzzle solver or the crossword function but the dictionary and the thesaurus are exactly the same as if you were using the enormous single volume dictionary and thesaurus by oxford whereas most other electronic dictionaries use much smaller dictionaries that do not contain all the words I need. Also the dictionary gives many examples and details in the varied uses of the word.
The history button is a great function as the dictionary stores the last 30 words you looked. I think this is great as I can read, look up a word, go back to my reading and at the end of the day look all the words that I encountered and write them down for future study. If you use it a lot you might find that the 30 word memory is a bit narrow (I tend to look even at words that I know just to check that they are appropriate in this context) so I would prefer a memory with a greater capacity.
All in all, I recommend the product because I think it is the best available for now but I can't wait for a more sophisticated product to hit the market.
