This review is from: Panasonic TH-37PX80B - 37" Widescreen HD Ready Plasma TV - With Freeview and Pedestal Stand (Electronics)
I bought this TV at the beginning of November and have not ceased to be impressed with it. First things first... don't be put off by the 720p resolution on HD; compared side by side with a 1080 LCD (I saw this in Currys) of a similar price the plasma looks better with the HD material and looks better with SD as well. It is the SD material which has really impressed me; most of what we watch is from a regular Sky Plus box and I have always been sceptical about standard material on large screen TVs... it is what has put me off for so long... yet the picture quality is vibrant ande the colours vivid. Blu-Ray DVDs blow you away, and because the TV can take 1080 and downscale it to 720 means that you can zoom in the the HD picture without losing quality.Regular DVDs whether upscaled on the Blu-Ray player or from a regular source look really good with details you haven't noticed before. Any niggles? The sound is a bit thin; but connecting the audio out from the TV to a good stereo mitigates this even without going for surround sound; oh and my personal irritation that 4:3 material always displays as widescreen by default, you can't set it to come up in the right aspect ratio with the sidebars. But both are trivial... Panasonic does it again; I can see why this is the What HiFi 37" TV of the year... go look at one and you won't buy LCD... Comments

Mine displays 4:3 material fine. If you have your Aspect Ratio set to Auto then you need to turn off the Overscan option in the Set Up menu to prevent the 4:3 image being expanded to fit the screen. There's an option for the brightness of the sidebars in there somewhere too.
