Rockstar have done it once again,
This review is from: L.A. Noire (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
LA Noire is probably the most unique game I have ever played. Its set in 1940s Los Angeles where you play as former Marine now Detective, Cole Phelps. Phelps is a unique character for Rockstar to have as its protagonist, because he's not an immigrant trying to bury his past or an outlaw trying to go straight. The core of LA Noire itself is interrogations and crime scenes. Sure theres shootings but these mainly occur later in the game. Interrogations are simply fantastic for me because theres nothing quite like sqeezing as much information out of the suspect as possible. But these are not a walk in the park. These are very challenging and I get annoyed with myself if I fail on a question. Interrogations vary as you progress to each desk. Patrol, Traffic, Homicide, Vice and Arson are the desks you'll be on and they all impressed me. Those after GTA in LA will be dissapointed however, as you can't simply wield your gun and start shooting. Causing havoc will also severly impact you, as you get less stars at the end of a case due to property damage. The plot is mainly divided amongst the desks you're working on, for example, you'll be invesingating the Black Dahlia murders on the Homicide desk and Army Morphine being sold on the streets on the Vice desk. Replay value is also surprisingly high, as you can replay old cases to get that 5 star rating and there are many collectibles scattered round LA, such as film reels and famous Hollywood landmarks. Overall LA Noire is a gorgeous game due to Team Bondis new facial animation and I would recommend it to anyone. Definetely a contender for Game of the Year.

Mr. Brown says:
its only a quick review
I was really looking forward to this game.
But after a few hours it was killing me.
Its really not that good.
Its got amazing facial acting
The game has three parts
1 wandering around on foot until the controller vibrates and picking up stuff.
2 driving at a slow speed
3 talking to people
Wander around on foot with some clunky walk controls
Press a button and wander about till the controls home in to a `close up scene'
Pick up thing with the guy say "hmmm that not it" or examining a body.
The floating first person hand is not easy to see what you are hovering over. Say a dead body and you end up opening a mans inside pocket 15 times before you find the right clue.
It's the past all cars are rubbish to drive and handle. No-one rides a motorbike??
While in a cop car you can get a radio call and drive boring miles to a mini shoot out or something not very interesting.
When you talk to people
You decide whether they are
1 lying (and supply a proof piece of evidence)
2 Telling the truth
3 Or not sure
You have a magic intuition point you gain from doing stuff. That can uncover all the clues at a crime scene or ask the audience remove an option in the dialog sections
This game is very dull
I wanted to like it.
There is just no real charm with it, it hasn't taken from any other good game.
Rockstar have just used a load of dated ideas that have made them rich and made a rubbish game
For instance - take Mass Effect or Fall out - the way you interact in conversation is awesome.
In La Noir it is dull.
The whole game is clunky as hell , driving, walking, the first person floating hand all very annoying. On the floating hand scenes you will pick up the same beer bottle 5 times because there is no definite indicator to what you are about to pick up.
Taking into account how far games have come since rockstar had their crown, people cant just be palmed off with the INGAME graphics doing something. There need to be some really cinema to make a game immersive and good. Cutsceenes are dull.
Think rubbish gramophone records with no option to turn it off and your there.
Take GTA a really old game format
Add amazing facial graphics on still very stiff models
Take away all good cars bikes or anything fast and fun.
Add in boring walking about hovering your hand mini game
Add in asking questions mini game
Use game graphics for cutsceenes
Add period music
And clunky controls
Sorry but the game is an epic fail, and too clunky to become immersive
Buy fallout or mass effect for immersion.

A P. HOWE says:
Its ashame that Mr Brown couldn't have started with 'some might enjoy this, but this wasn't for me' I found the game to be refreshing and different, a GTA from the other side of the shoot out if you will. I like the story, I like having to think, and I think anyone with impulses to do things other than kill, mame and complete illegal activities using an xbox controller might just enjoy this a hell of alot.
Oh and on the cut scene point, I forget i'm playing a game half the time, the graphics are ace anyway, and when you add in the facial animation, just wow. Words don't do it justice.
