2.0 out of 5 stars Not Sony standard, 7 Oct. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Sony DCRSR58EX Handycam Camcorder With Built-In 80GB HDD - Silver (Camera)
Sorry, but this is well below the standard I expect from Sony. I have been using Sony mini DV cameras for 4 years, and on a recent shoot was able to make comparisons with their results and that of this HDD model. Frankly, this HDD model isn't at all as good when it comes to video clarity. Also very unforgiving of lower light situations. The test of a product is would you buy it again. No. I'll stick with my Sony mini DV cams, and firewire connections. Did I like anything about this model? The sound it records is impressive. But that's not why we buy video cameras is it.

You cannot beat the Sony mini DV format when it comes to high quality standard definition video & convenience of useability within Video editing software suites.Pinnacle Studio in particular.I have tried both formats wishing to upgrade to HDD comparing results with both HDD & mini DV.However, contrary to what i had expected of HDD,i was very disappointed with the results.I shall be sticking with my trusted mini DV format for the foreseeable future on the basis of this camcorders poor performance.
