Unoriginal and a bit "run of the mill", but good fun,
This review is from: Frontlines: Fuel of War (PC DVD) (Video Game)
Before I start my review I'll just quickly state that I do not touch multiplayer games. If you're looking for a review of the multiplayer parts to this game you'll be best looking at one of the other reviews. This review will be solely about the single player campaign.
Not exactly an innovation in gaming and it is a little "run of the mill" for a shooter but I did find it a lot of fun.
On the plus side, as I said, although it isn't much new the gameplay is surprisingly good fun. You get to play with some interesting gadgets, such as remote controlled explosive cars and remote controlled missile firing helicopters. The action is usually a lot of fun even if it isn't often very intense and although the campaign story isn't great it does have just enough drama to keep you interested. As an added bonus the tanks can also be a lot of fun to drive.
On the minus side, like most of these multi player games, the campaign could be better; it isn't as intense or engrossing as say Crysis 2 or Half Life 2. The game has more than its share of bugs including clipping and minor graphical errors. Also friendly units have the strange habit of appearing out of thin air at machine gun posts and friendly tanks magically appear in front of you when objectives are completed. The graphics in general are bit below par for a game that's only 3-4 years old. Also the controls for the attack helicopters are terrible and very confusing which will probably result in you crashing before seeing any sort of action while using them.
My only other complaint is that many of the weapons lack oomph; you'll probably find yourself firing entire magazines into an enemy soldier unless you manage get a head shot, not a great deal but it is a slight annoyance.
Despite those flaws I did enjoy this one. If you're a fussy gamer you'll probably want to give this a miss since I suspect you'll find the flaws frustrating. If, like me, you aren't so fussy and are looking for a game that'll kill a few hours then I'd suggest at least considering this one. Regardless of its negatives I found it to be a lot of fun.
