lovely vegetable cookbook,
This review is from: Elizabeth David on Vegetables (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Elizabeth David bought the taste of, flavoursome, lightly cooked Mediterranean vegetables to this country in the 1950's. It was the beginning of a new way of cooking. Her recipes bought out the taste of the vegetables and her writing took you to southern France and made your mouth water. However her books and recipes, though excellent, have become dated. We now expect sumptuous well styled photographs in our cookbooks, and some of her recipes even now test the palate somewhat. Her recipes have been brought up to date in a new collection of cookery books. Elizabeth David on Vegetables is the latest edition. It is packed with gorgeous recipes, all focussing on flavour rather than fanciness. Good honest Mediterranean home cooking. This is all easy straightforward classic cooking, but her recipes will still impress dinner guests. Some of her writing survives in this book, just enough to whet your appetite, but the focus is really on the recipes. A book I will use over and over, great for vegetarians.
