Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I'm extremely pleased that I ordered this book from Amazon as it has proved a big hit with several of the children I work with. The variety of armour types included from historical to contemporary, and natural to man-made and the wide scope of these categories has really caught the imaginations of 6-9 year olds. The range of armours in the sense of 'defensive covering' and the level of detail are just right to provide an approachable reference book that really appeals to young intellects. Everything is covered, from traditional knights, to cross-cultural armour stylings, animal defenses, safety wear and defensive structures.
The book itself is very nicely produced, and would make a good gift. There are lots of small pictures accompanying the quite detailed text - these are enough to make the book accessible to younger children, however the detailed yet cartoon-ey styling of the illustrations (combined with the more advanced-level text) reduces the risk of the book being deemed too babyish for older readers.
