A decent first effort,
This review is from: The frog and the scorpion (Paperback)
Suspend disbelief, ignore some unlikely coincidences and some identikit characters and you might enjoy this. The author weaves a somewhat unlikely tale of a couple of innocents who take on some hardened gangsters and come out on top, with the plot enjoying some excellent twists and turns along the way. There's also a healthy dose of humour, mainly black, although I was reminded of "Lock Stock..." throughout.
There's little new here, and the fast moving pace avoids the need for any real literary merit - there were also a couple of passages which cried out for proper editing. Still, this book is what it is, a caper, there's no attempt at a message (unless it's do unto others before they do unto you) and as long as you enter into the spirit of the thing, then it's an OK way to spend a few hours.
If the author can extend his imaginative plot to some imaginative characters, then he should get better - I had the feeling that this was a good idea for a movie which didn't quite make the transition to the page.
