This review is from: Rising Stars Volume 2: Power (Rising Stars (Image Comics)) (Paperback)Another excellent piece of work from the writer of Babylon 5, "Power" continues the story of the Specials, a group of 113 people born in a town with super powers. Unlike more conventional stories of spandex-clad champions and grizzled veterans, the Rising Stars series has a more 'authentic' feel to it. Real thought has gone into how the world would react to superhuman individuals in their midst.
A number of stories join together to form an arc - there is always a feel that the tale being told is part of a greater whole. There are several moments of drama, incidental humour, and poignant sadness. Although the a majority of the book concentrates on a marvellous story involving a majority of the characters, it is the final short story that I find particularly moving.
I would recommend this to any fan of comic books, or to anyone else wanting a more thoughful look at superheroes.
