interesting....I live in Spain where I bought a VW Golf which has an ipod connection, but it´s fiddly to connect my ipod touch to it. That´s why I´m looking for an extension cable - I see you specifically mention it´s not compatible with VW. Can you tell me more?

actually I took a risk on this, as it was very difficult to establish from the web which lead would work. Anyhow, this lead does work i.e. you can connect to the car´s speakers, but it does not charge, and when connected you cannot use the menu on the ipod i.e. change the music. YOu have to disconnect, choose what you want to play and then reconnect.

You also need a voltage converter adapter to charge an iPhone such as one sold by cablejive

You need a cablejive charge converter to convert the electronics to the 'new' apple configurations since the first iPhone. I then bought a dock extension by DeLOCK. the result is it works but the limitations of the VW system is a bit frustrating, only being able to play playlists etc. I am tempted to buy a dock to Aux cable to get the full functionality of the iPhone/iPod but then I lose the steering wheel controls!
