If you feel the Bothy Band didn't give enough floorspace to Micheál Ó Domhnaill then this album, recorded not long after they became defunct, redresses the balance. There's plenty of sprightly dance music, with Kevin Burke's multitracked fiddle prefiguring the sound of Celtic Fiddle Festival; but it's Ó Domhnaill's trademark Gaelic melancholia that sets the tone. His sorrowful voice and stately guitar is enough to make you weep, for all the best reasons. A minor but beautiful work.
