Really Disappointed ;-(,
This review is from: One False Move (Paperback)
I'd lapped up some of Harlan's previous works, (and really enjoyed them) but this was the first time I'd tried one of the Myron Bolitar novels. Alas I was sorely dissapointed.
The actual plot is fine with all the normal twists and turns one would expect from a Corben novel but it is with the characters that this books fell flat for me.
Corben has always written some wonderful and engaging characters, some of them pushing the boundries of believability but never going totally ridiculous. Sadly this books contains characters that have leaped from the pages of a comic, so stupid are their characteristics and personalities.
Also the book suffers from an overdose of testrostone with a series of macho stand offs between the posing and posturing men in the book, none of this is carried off with Harlan's normal witt and style and becomes simply round after round of playground cat calls.
One final gripe, what is with all the advertising in the book? There were loads of references to various products in the book with no doubt suitable recompence to Mr. Corben.
I will return to more of his work no doubt but I would seriously consider whether to waste time on another Bolitar series novel.
