This review is from: Family Tree Maker for MAC v2 (Mac) (CD-ROM)
Have used the ancestry website for more than a year to create my family tree which is now quite extensive (the Gedcom file is 3.4mb). My current membership was due for renewal so I thought I would take the opportunity to try the software as it comes with 6m membership and at only £38.02 it was cheaper then just getting the membership. More importantly this gave me the chance to download and save all of the info from the web site onto my Mac. Arrived as promptly as you would expect from Amazon and I installed it into my Mac. All went fine although the first message was that it was not connected to the internet (Not true), however, the next dialogue box prompted for an upgrade which i then processed. Again all went smoothly and then it acknowledge the internet was connected! Logged on to my ancestry account and pressed the synch option. Had lunch and came back to see a downloaded version of the tree on my Mac with an indicator to say that it was still synching the media (lunch was just a sandwich so no real surprise even though I have a pretty good broadband connection as all of the photos ext make it a lot of data). Not long after the synch had finished and all looks good. Made a couple of updates and as I have the auto synch option ticked all seemed to synched as soon as i closed the program. Reopened and all looks good. Time will tell if there are any little bugs but it has fulfilled its initial purpose. Will take up the free membership in a few weeks when my current one ends. Only given 4 stars as the layout looks very different to the web version that I am used to so using so it feels a bit strange at the moment. In fact I suspect I will continue to use the web version for a while as I know my way around that and just use the program to synch and save the data.
